A Yoga Teacher’s Path
Some people asked me how come I become a yoga teacher. It’s an interesting story.
I have been practising yoga for 20 years while being a yoga teacher is about 5 years. For me, doing yoga and teaching yoga are two different things. Doing yoga is personal, could be something for relaxation, self-experience, energy balance, or body fitness, and so on.
After some years, yoga practice slowly becomes a life style, which influences the diet, clothes, body sensitivity, sensations, intuition, mind states, emotions switch, self-awareness, etc.. During these years, I tried different forms of yoga: Hatha yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Mantra yoga, Hot yoga, Yin yoga, Nada yoga and Kundalini yoga. Finally I stick on the Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan for 7 years.
In the beginning I was attracted by the mantras in Kundalini yoga. Till one day I was “called” by the Guru or Higher Self, then received the mission: I am a yoga teacher! It’s time to teach yoga.
The mission was given so clearly, I have no doubt. I went through the kundalini yoga teacher training for 10 months, then was certified as a level one instructor by KRI. I still remember in the beginning of the teacher training, I had one dream in one night. One “master” came to check how my Mul Mantra learning was, I started to chant in the dream… After woke up I put more effort to learn this mantra.
I have been teaching kundalini yoga since 2013 in Netherlands. As a teacher, do believe that students will find me once I send the message out. It’s also true that I naturally attract certain types of students. Most have international background and had good education. Some students experienced a life change quickly, within 3 months.
From group classes to private lessons, I am still amazed that the effects go so fast and deeply that students are satisfied with the results, or even experience the transformation.
As a teacher, I receive good karma when the students come and put their effort with me to work on themselves, and use the techniques in their daily life. I also encourage the beginners to join the classes at least 10 lessons or 3 months.
Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is a yoga for householders, for people who have to cope with the daily challenges and stresses of holding jobs, raising families, and managing businesses. It is a path for everyone who wants the skills to cope successfully with the challenges of our times. Sat Nam.
